The Scottish Bowel Screening Programme

THE SCOTTISH BOWEL SCREENING PROGRAMME

DON'T BE SCARED - GET CHECKED!

IF YOU ARE AGED BETWEEN 50 AND 74 EVERY TWO YEARS YOU WILL BE ASKED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SCOTTISH BOWEL SCREENING PROGRAMME.   YOU WILL RECEIVE YOUR BOWEL SCREENING TEST KIT IN THE POST.  THIS IS PART OF DETECT CANCER EARLY.

SENDING OFF A SAMPLE IS THE BEST WAY TO IDENTIFY BOWEL CANCERS AT THE EARLIEST STAGE WHEN TREATMENT IS SUCCESSFUL AND ALMOST CURATIVE.

BOWEL CANCER IS THE THIRD MOST COMMON CANCER IN SCOTLAND AFTER LUNG AND BREAST CANCER.

THERE IS A VERY POOR RESPONSE TO THIS SCREENING PROGRAMME. WE WOULD ENCOURAGE EVERYBODY WHO RECEIVES A KIT TO PARTICIPATE.

WE ARE AWARE THAT THE PROCESS OF COLLECTION CAN BE CHALLENGING.  IF YOU WOULD LIKE A COLLECTION CONTAINER, MORE SPATULAS OR SOME GLOVES PLEASE CALL INTO THE SURGERY.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO DISCUSS ANY ASPECT OF THE TEST PLEASE MAKE AN APPOINTMENT OR TELEPHONE THE SURGERY TO SPEAK TO EITHER A DOCTOR OR A NURSE.
